Who can register as a tutor?
Tutors must:
- be a Singapore citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident,
- be at least 18 years old.

How do I get tuition assignments here?
You need to be registered as a tutor with us. Sign up here.
During registration, you provide your tuition experience and preferences, such as which level and subjects you would like to teach, which locations you are willing to teach at, and any other useful information about yourself.
You can apply for open assignments online, check our Telegram channel for instant updates, or wait for coordinators to notify you by SMS and WhatsApp.
If it is a match, the agent will confirm the assignment with you by passing you the parent's contact information and full address.
-
How much do I have to pay to Start Tuition?
Start Tuition charges a 50% commission on the first month's tuition fee. At the end of the first 4 weeks, the parent will pay this 50% directly to Start Tuition. The other 50% will be paid directly to you.
Thereafter, you will receive the full 100% directly from the parent.
-
Do I need to do anything after I have been confirmed as a tutor?
You would have received the confirmation with the parent's contact information and tuition address. If you want to reschedule the first lesson, or get more information about the student, feel free to contact the parent directly. Otherwise, no action is needed from you.
-
What should I take note of, for the first lesson?
On the actual day before the class starts:
- Prepare photo ID and academic credentials for parents' verification.
- Dress appropriately and professionally.
- Be on time and research the location if unfamiliar.
- Request for an open area especially when tutoring students of the opposite gender, if possible.
After the class ends:
- Discuss with the parent to give some post-lesson comments and take feedback.
-
If I do not want to continue with the tuition after I've accepted it, what should I do?
This should only be done as a last resort, after you have tried but are not able to work out any alternate arrangement with the parent, as this can be highly disruptive to the child's progress.
You should inform the coordinator who contacted you for the assignment, providing the reason for the termination. The coordinator will inform the parent of your decision, if you have not already done so, and arrange for a replacement for the parent.
It will be best if you can refer someone who is keen and able to replace you.
-
How does Start Tuition use the information I provide of myself?
We conduct our business in compliance with Singapore Personal Data Protection Act. Please refer to the full Policy here.
