Let your child reflect: What went well?

Reflection is one of the most powerful but overlooked tools in a child's learning journey. The final week of this school term provides a natural pause point, a chance to look back before racing ahead in Term 4. When parents ask thoughtful questions, it helps children connect the dots between effort, challenges, and growth.

Start simple: "What went well this term?" This encourages your child to recognize strengths and moments they're proud of.
Then ask "What was tricky, and how did you handle it?" This shifts the focus from failure to problem-solving.
Finally, "What would you like to do differently next term?" This creates a forward-looking mindset, giving your child agency in shaping their own learning.

These conversations don't have to be formal. A chat over dinner or on the way home is enough. The goal isn't to correct, but to listen — and to let your child reflect, formulate, and hear their own thoughts out loud. Reflection builds self-awareness, resilience, and ownership. In the long run, it prepares them not just for the next exam, but for the bigger challenges life will bring.
