Do tutors provide materials or notes for tuition?

It depends. Most academic classes will involve assessment books; parents usually purchase them, or tutors can recommend suitable ones based on the child's current standards and the parents reimburse. The more experienced tutors may provide worksheets, exam papers, sample essays, if they have.

Why is it so difficult to do well in Malay?

For students who struggle with Mother Tongue (or Malay in this case), we often see several common reasons:

  • Lack of immersion: It's not spoken in the family or social circle.
  • Fear of making mistakes: Many students hesitate to speak for fear of sounding "wrong" or being judged, which blocks practice and improvement.
  • Vocabulary overload: Not only is the language difficult, there are tons of new words to learn, remember. Over time, the difficulty multiplies.

How to do better?

With academic pressures, the goal looks further every day. We encourage students and family to:

  • Daily Exposure: Listen to music, watch shows, or follow educational media in Malay. Even 10–15 mins a day helps.
  • Learn in Context: Find stories, phrases/sentences to incorporate the new vocabulary. This helps improves recall and demonstrates how the words flow naturally.
  • Engage an experienced tutor: Having the expertise of an experienced tutor can help narrow down key areas to focus on, and targeted practice to make learning as effective and efficient as possible. Tutors are also cheerleaders - motivating the children along the long process towards excellence!
