Mdm Doreen Ng has been a great tutor for my boys. My P6 boy says he learns more in her 1-hr lesson than in all his classes during the week (he doesn't really understand his chinese teacher at school). My P4 boy enjoys his lessons & I often hear him laughing during class. What a blessing she has been!

How is the new PSLE score calculated?

The change in the scoring system for PSLE will be effected in PSLE 2021. This means, students entering Pri 1 in 2016 onwards will be under this new system.

So, what is the new PSLE scoring like?

In short, instead of giving each student a T-score, students will receive a band from AL1 to AL8, similar to GCE N, O, A Levels' F9 to A1:

AL1: 90 and above
AL2: 85-89
AL3: 80-84
AL4: 75-79
AL5: 65-74
AL6: 45-64
AL7: 20-44
AL8: Below 20

This means, if a student scored 90 and above for all 4 subjects, the PSLE score given will be 4, (1 for each subject). A student who scored 65 for all 4 subjects will receive a score of 20 (5 per subject).

Does the new PSLE system affect the Secondary 1 posting exercise?

Yes, it does. In the old system, students with a higher PSLE score is favoured most, followed by citizenship. If there is a tie (same score, same citizenship), computerised balloting will be used to determine who gets the place.

Under the new system, students with a higher PSLE score is still prioritised, followed by citizenship. A new third factor is introduced: the choice order, i.e the rank of the school in the student's choices. The student who indicated the school in a higher choice will get priority. Computerised balloting will remain as the final tie-breaker.
